The Department of Chemical Engineering at Hongik University is one of the leading departments in Korea with a half-century history. It started from refinery and petrochemical fields, and is currently expanding its education and research areas into emerging technoligies such as polymers, biotechnology, and information and communications materials. To this end, the Department of Chemical Engineering operates a curriculum consisting of thermodynamics, transport phenomena, reaction catalysts, biochemical engineering, polymers, information and communication materials, and energy and environment.

We train about 100 chemical engineers each year, and they play a pivotal role in chemical engineering-related industries as well as educational and research institutes.

The professors of the department are actively conducting research in the fields of reaction engineering, colloid and interfacial phenomena, electrochemistry, renewable energy, environment and separation processes, process system design, organic optoelectronic materials, molecular biotechnology, polymer and biomaterials, nanostructured materials, and biomimetic systems.

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Hongik University provides students with a systematic chemical engineering education to grow into a professional engineer having expertise required by society.
